Play Therapy

Play therapy is a type of psychotherapy that uses play to help children deal with emotional and mental health difficulties. By using play and creative techniques, children can explore their feelings and thoughts and begin to process and understand confusing feelings and events that cause them distress. Play therapy is suitable for children aged 4-12.

Play is essential to every child's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, creative and language development. It helps make learning robust for all children and young people including those for whom oral communication may be difficult.

Play therapy helps children in a variety of ways. Children receive emotional support and can learn to understand more about their own feelings and thoughts. Sometimes they can recreate or play out traumatic or difficult life experiences to make sense of their past and cope better with the future.

We work closely with our Play Therapist, Becca, who works with us at Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch every Thursday. She is registered with the British Association of Play Therapy (BAPT) and we strictly follow their guidelines.
